WCL Summer Concerts with Hank Cramer

Hank Cramer with guitar in pine woodsWhitman County Library announces the fourth annual Summer Concert Series set to visit 12 towns during the second week in July. WCL welcomes Hank Cramer back after a three year absence. Hank's repertoire is a mix of original, traditional, and contemporary folk songs. They tell the stories of cowboys, sailors, soldiers, miners, adventurers, and just plain drifters. He will draw as his experience as underground miner for some of the summer reading programs as a part of our Dig into Reading theme.

Once again Humanities Washington is supporting this series. According to Library Director Kristie Kirkpatrick, “It is because of support from organizations like Humanities Washington and the Friends of the Library that we are able to bring such quality programs to our smaller communities.”

Seven of the concerts are a part of regular summer reading programs with music for families including traditional songs and fun activities. The other five concerts are acoustic performances for the communities. Several will be held in outdoor venues.

The complete schedule of programs is available from the library’s Events Calendar at www.whitco.lib.wa.us or by calling 509-397-4366. Specific information about locations can also be found on each branch Facebook page.

*COLFAX’S CONCRETE RIVER FESTIVAL - JULY 26-28

Colfax has a long and storied past that often revolved around devastating flooding of the Palouse River. In the mid 1960’s, the United States Corps of Engineers solved the problem by building the Mighty Concrete River, a deep channel in the heart town.

Today, residents celebrate this engineering feat with a festival that includes:

  • A Color Mob 5K Fun Run through the Concrete River
  • Live Music all 3 days with beer garden, craft and food vendors
  • Friday Night Street Cruise and Roller Derby Exhibition
  • Saturday Parade, Kid’s Carnival and Car Show
  • Our Palouse: People, Places and Possibilities, 3 day photography exhibition
  • Palouse Sampler, guided photography tour (this event is full)
