From coast to coast, millions of readers, both young and old, are gearing up for the nation's largest reading celebration--the National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America Day. Launched several years ago as a way to get kids excited about reading, NEA's Read Across America has grown into a year-long program that culminates every year on Dr. Seuss's birthday. Here in Whitman County, librarians, parents, teachers, education support professionals and students, are doing their part to deliver the very important reading message: Kids who read, and who are read to, do better in school and help build great public schools. The youth department from the Colfax Library is getting into the reading excitement, too. Sheri and Nichole along with the Reading Bear will be visiting area schools and sharing the love of some special Dr. Seuss books helping to motivate children to read on March 2 and every day. On Read Across America Day, join in on the fun because you are never too old, too wacky, too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child! So put aside the many hats you wear for work and play and don the ultimate reading hat, the red and white striped stovepipe made famous by the Cat in the Hat, on March 2.
