THANKS to these recent honorees....

Whitman County Library developed the Supporter of the Month award in 2008 to recognize individuals, groups and businesses for their invaluable contributions. It is my honor to name the most recent recipients.

Wanda Alderman of Steptoe is a dedicated library supporter and volunteer, recently completing her second year as President of the Friends of WCL. Wanda is an integral part of the library’s Rural Heritage project, gathering images and interviewing longtime residents about our region’s history and heritage. Wanda is a fixture within the library and the community.

Cathy Jones of Malden leads local library crafting programs, planning the projects and supplying all materials. Cathy also helps with Summer Reading programs in both the Malden and Rosalia Branches and assists wherever she is needed. Manager Karen Wallace says, “I couldn’t provide such great service without Cathy!”

As town clerk, Linda Hayes of St. John welcomes every community member into the library/town hall with a smile. She supports the library with her time and resources and most amazing of all, loves the noisy children’s programs that happen just outside her office.

State Bank of Farmington has supported the library’s Summer Reading programs for as long as anyone can remember. As one of the few Farmington businesses, State Bank is dedicated and supportive of their small community.

As a longtime member of the Friends of WCL, Columbia Bank regularly announces the library’s events on their Colfax reader board and they generously support employee Teri Kneale’s work with the Friends of WCL!

First Wind and Palouse Wind Farm Support Specialist Shawn Elston worked side-by-side with library officials to develop a plan to best serve the communities of Oakesdale and Rosalia. As a result, First Wind generously funds Saturday hours in the Rosalia Library and two community programs each month in the Oakesdale Library.
