You can see videos of the forums on the LWV website.

To assist local voters, a ballot issues debate was held on Tuesday, October 15 at the Colfax Branch of Whitman County Library. This forum was sponsored by the Pullman League of Women Voters, The Whitman County Gazette and Whitman County Library.

During this forum, Initiatives 522 and 517 were debated with panel members taking questions from the audience. Initiative 522 concerns the labeling of genetically-engineered foods. Initiative 517 establishes protections for citizens who participate in the initiative and referendum process. Information on the Advisory votes for increasing taxes were also available at the forum.
An additional forum was held on October 16 in Pullman. The Pullman forum featured the city council candidates in the three contested races but all candidates were present to answer questions from the audience.

Whiman County Library Card Sign-Up Drawing

Friends of WCL Draw Winner's
Rosie Schluneger and Duane & Charity McCauley

WCL celebrated September's Library Card Sign Up Month by offering new card holders the opportunity to win one of two $25 gift certificates sponsored by the Friends of WCL. Thirty new library users were added throughout Whitman County as part of the promotion.

Certificate winners were drawn at the Friends meeting on Tuesday, October 8. The winners have the choice of local businesses for their $25 gift certificate from one of the many sponsors supporting the Friends of the Library. Rosie Schluneger chose Tick Klock Drug in Colfax and Duane and Charity McCauley of St. John chose Primeland Cooperatives.

Observed since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month is a time when the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country remind parents that a library card is the most important school supply of all.  It's the smartest card in your wallet...the Whitman County Library Card! Getting a library card is easy. Most individuals need only provide proof of Whitman County residency and within a few minutes, the smartest card around is yours to use that very same day.

For more information on how to sign up for a library card, visit any branch of the Whitman County Library, call toll-free 877-733-3375 or visit the library online at www.whitco.lib.wa.us
