Food For Fine Drive Success

Whitman County Library and area food pantries thank the 138 residents who donated $900.00 in non-perishable food for the thirteenth annual “Foods for Fines” drive. Donations came in throughout Whitman County with almost 1/3 of those not attached to the waiving of library fines. Food for Fines is held each February when area pantries report more people struggling with high heat bills and difficulty feeding their hungry families.
Wired or Wireless was recently honored during a reception at the Malden Library celebrating the conclusion of their two year grant that provided 60 hour per week access to Malden's library and computer center. Malden librarian Shannon Roe presented Wired to Wireless owner Bill Giebel and business manager Mike Puryear with Library Supporter of the Month honors. While the company will no longer provide staffing for the facility, they will continue to provide free internet and computer support for many years to come.

Prior to the grant, the Malden Library was open just two hours per week and operated out of a garage-like space. Thanks to the efforts of Wired to Wireless, the library offers 9 public computers and a library facility that has become the focal point of the community. Malden's new library hours are Wednesdays fromn 1-6 p.m. with educational storytimes each Wednesday at 4:30. For more information about the Malden Branch of Whitman County Library, please contact Kristie Kirkpatrick, Library Director at 509-397-4366.

Wendy Zuppan Bailey is the March 7th featured Artist The Colfax Arts Council is pleased to announce that Wendy Zuppan Bailey, a mixed media sculptor from Spokane, will be the featured artist on Thursday, March 7 at 7:00 PM at the Colfax library. Featured in the premier season of Meet the Artist, this is Wendy’s second visit to Colfax and we are thrilled to have her back. As stated on Wendy’s web page, her work is defined by “curiously merry whimsical sculptures and paper doll puppetry”. Inspired by fairy tales, children’s books and the magical adventures of everyday life, Wendy’s work is amusing, mysterious and accessible. Using clay, found objects, vintage fabrics, beads and laces, Wendy’s creations speak to the imagination and incorporate sculpting, fabric art, costume design and painting. Please make the time to meet this amazing mixed media sculptor, see some of her wonderful art and hear her talk about her creative process. For more information regarding Wendy Zuppan Bailey, please visit her web site at http://www.wendyzupanbailey.com/.
