Rachelle's Creepy Juvenile reads!

Tis the season for spooky tales and if you have juvenile children who love a good scare start with “Coraline” the story of a young girl who must challenge a gruesome entity to save herself, her parents and three lost souls.

This collection of forty-one scary stories is perfect for sleepovers, campfires, car trips and especially kid’s costume parties!

Disney fodder his stories may be, but ole H.C.A had a dark side!  Spoiler alert, these tales do not have a happy ending and Prince Charming never comes.

Spine chilling titles for October

Creepy enough to be banned from school libraries, this book is about a young girl who believes the cat she has found and brought home to raise is possessed by a witch who is causing her to act out violently against her family.

Considered by many to be King’s scariest work of fiction, if you fear clowns but love horror than this is a must read for you!

Cited as “Best Book of the Year” by Atlanta magazine for its skin-crawling supernatural terror, this debut novel by Stephen King’s son puts the scare in scary!

WCL is accepting Barn Photos for the next calendar

This barn in Ewan was featured in the 2012 calendar.

Photos of area barns are being accepted for an upcoming edition of the popular Barns of Whitman County calendar. Steve Van Vleet of Whitman County Extension has prepared the calendar for almost a decade with all proceeds benefiting the Friends of Whitman County Library. While Steve normally photographs all of the barns himself, he thought it would be fun to seek contributions from area residents and photographers. Having photos of the barns in different seasons is ideal. If you are interested in contributing a photo, please contact Steve Van Vleet as soon as possible at svanvleet@wsu.edu or by calling 397-6290.
The calendar goes to print the end of October and goes on sale the end of November.

Classic reading suggestions from Sarah!

by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Eccentric and wealthy Jay Gatsby searches for the love, Nick Carraway for meaning, and Daisy for amusement through a mysterious maze of lavish parties, liquor, and jazz. This classic novel provides a glamorous, yet profound, picture of American prosperity and feeling in Roaring 20’s.
by Louisa May Alcott
This touching story of the March sisters, Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth illustrates the women’s creativity and courage in the face of growing up, poverty, and Civil War.

1984
by George Orwell
Orwell creates a totalitarian dystopia where freedom does not exist (even in your own mind) and Big Brother is always watching. A chilling and all-to-real nightmare takes shape in the city of London as a terribly riveting plot unfolds.
