Curious about how 3D printing may meet your individual or business needs? Attend the 3D Printing Orientation at the Colfax Library TEK Center on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. to answer all your questions!
Thanks to a grant from the Innovia Foundation Whitman County Library now has a MakerBot Replicator+ 3D printer! This exciting new resource enables the library to teach 21st-century skills and gives patrons access to cutting-edge technology.

Check Out A "Mustached" Book & Be Entered to WIN!!!

Movember is an annual event involving the growing of mustaches to "change the face of men's health" during the month of November to raise awareness of men's health issues, such as prostate and testicular cancer. 




















"Mustached" books are on display and hidden throughout the library! To help raise awareness of men's health issues, patrons are encouraged to check out a book and take a selfie or group photo with the mustaches provided and post it to Facebook with the hashtag #WCLMovember or #WCLMoSelfie.

Just a reminder...all 14 branches of Whitman County Library will close Thursday and Friday, November 23 & 24 for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Access to the library’s catalog, downloadable audio and eBooks, Heritage Quest, and Whitman County Rural Heritage remain available at www.whitco.lib.wa.us.

Libraries affected by the closure are: Albion, Colfax, Colton, Endicott, Farmington, Garfield, LaCrosse, Malden, Oakesdale, Palouse, Rosalia, St. John, Tekoa, and Uniontown. Residents may call the library at 397-4366 or toll-free at 1-877-733-3375 for information, details regarding the closure or renewal of materials.

Congratulations to our Fall 2018 Supporters!

October 2018 Supporter of the Month: U.S. Bank

US Bank in Colfax as well as the US Bank Foundation played an important role supporting renovation projects at the Colfax Library and The Center. Additionally, manager, Shanna Larson, provides finance classes on a variety of topics and skills. Most recently, the US Bank Foundation funded programs for the children of Endicott & St. John communities!

Andrea Harp of Malden has long supported the library. Andrea was integral in bringing library services to town and continues to help out by donating craft items, assisting with programs and spreading the word about all that is available at the Malden Library.

Another huge turnout for Richard Scheuerman at the Center at Colfax Library last week with over 100 community members in attendance!

The subject of Scheuerman's fascinating talk was his latest book, "Hardship to Homeland," which represents years of research into the Volga German settlements in our region and Dick's very personal connection to his ancestors and the Palouse. This event was brought to you by WSU Press & Libraries.

Popular Barn Calendars go on Sale!

The Barns of Whitman County 2019 calendars are now on sale featuring regional barns and seasonal backdrops from a variety of local photographers. Pick up your copy today!

The calendars are just $10 and available at any branch of Whitman County Library, Tick Klock Drug and Rosauers in Colfax and the Pullman Chamber of Commerce. The calendars have sold out every year so residents are encouraged to buy them soon. Proceeds benefit Friends of the Library programs and projects in all 14 branches. We can also mail calendars to anyone outside of the area! Please call us at 397-4366 for details.


Over the past 9 years, Steve Van Vleet, WSU’s Regional Extension Specialist has donated his photographs and production of the calendars as a way of giving back to the community. Additional images were contributed by Sharon Lindsay, Virgil Hanson, Catalina Flores, Jane Finan and Sherri Van Vleet.

Colfax Library has lots of fun, kid-friendly activities this week!

Leap into Science with BALANCE! - Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Come discover BALANCE at the TEK Center in the Colfax Library. Kids will be engaged with fun STEM activities and encouraged to think scientifically.Kids, grades 3 & up,

JES kids can take bus 8 to the Colfax Library with parental note. This STEM program is engineered by the Franklin Institute.

Kids Investigate Insects: Hands-on BUGS! - Thursday, Nov. 15, 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

It's Insects & Beyond! Join WSU's Entomologist, Daisy, for a hands-on program about BUGS! Kids, grades 1 & up are invited to the library for STEM engagement activities with stories, games, crafts, and more!

JES kids can take bus 8 to the Colfax Library with parental note.


Storytime - Thursday Mornings 10:10 to 11:30 a.m. (during the school year)

Families are welcome! Storytime is a FREE listening and pre-reading experience for children birth to age 5. Kiddos and parents/ caregivers enjoy engaging stories and imaginative activities that include songs, crafts, puppets, and more!

Baby Time (0-2) 10:10 to 10:30 a.m.
Toddler Time (2-3) 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Preschool Time (4+) 11 to 11:30 a.m.


Play & Learn - Friday Mornings, 10 to 11 a.m. (during the school year)

Want to save money on your Medicare supplement or related costs? Enrollment for health insurance and Medicare is open now and volunteers, Daniel and Joyce Leonard, are coming to all Whitman County communities to help meet the individual needs of current and future Medicare recipients. To receive the best assistance, participants should bring a list of current medications. Drop-in anytime during the scheduled hours for assistance.

Whitman County Library is partnering again this year with SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) to offer free, unbiased, confidential help in making this important decision. Supplement policies need an annual review as they change in cost and coverage every year. SHIBA is a free, unbiased service of the Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner and sponsored locally by Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington. Dan and Joyce Leonard were awarded the Washington AARP Andrus Award, the highest award for volunteer service in the state earlier this year.

Pearl Bouchard, Navigator for WA State's HealthPlanFinder will also be available to assist in Colfax!

Pearl Bouchard, Navigator for Washington HealthPlanFinder, will offer in-person assistance to residents signing up for health and dental coverage through Washington HealthPlanFinder. Celebrate Colfax's "Holiday Open House" starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8th in The Center at Colfax Library. A variety of vendors will offer you some great holiday gifts or maybe that special something just for you. Visitors can vote for the People's Choice award in the "Inspired Palouse" art contest or learn about other programs from the Colfax Arts Council.
