Why Storytime?

Children are involved in a variety of imaginative activities that may include stories, poetry, fingerplays and action activities, games, musical events, crafts, puppets, and creative dramatics. These activities help to promote cognitive development, imagination, curiosity, comprehension, language fluency and reading readiness.

Storytime will give your child an opportunity to:

*Become comfortable with the library
*Be exposed to good reading material
*Develop an enjoyment of books
*Build a solid foundation for learning to read
*Interact with his or her peer group

WCL Event Sampling Aug. 29-Sept. 5

Thursday, August 29

Colton – 5:30 p.m. – Pajama Storytime – Children wear you jammies and bring a stuffed animal. We will create a votive jar and read stories.

Colfax – 6 to 7 p.m. & 7 to 8 p.m. – Free Martial Arts & Self Defense Classes in the Center – First session from 6-7 p.m. for ages 4-12. Second session from 7-8 p.m. is for teens and adults.

Rosalia – 10:30 a.m. – Storytime – Bring in the little ones for fun stories, songs, crafts and adventures.

 

Wednesday, September 4

Malden – 4 p.m. – Storytime – Fun stories, songs and crafts every Wednesday.

Thursday, September 5

Colfax – Noon – Gentle Flex and Flow Yoga – Classes run for five weeks at a cost of $30 per session or $10 per class. Flex and Flow is a gentle form of Yoga that stretches the body while soothing the mind. To register, contact Suzy McNeilly at (509) 397-4709.

To enter, adults just need to read and briefly review 3 books by August 31. Besides the countywide grand prize drawings, finishers will receive a variety of prizes from local business sponsors. Entry forms are available at all 14 branch locations or online from the Whitman County Library website.

Teens Summer Reading also continues through the end of August, with grand prize being an HD Flip Video Camera. Three short book reviews submitted online or in person is all that’s needed for entry. Additional prizes and drawings for teens vary by branch location.
