Want to grow veggies but you just don’t have the space? With just a little wall space and a fish
tank, you can develop an Aquaponic system that conserves space while producing
plants that thrive.
Learn about Aquaponics from Jeanelle Miller on September 21
at 2 pm in the Colfax Library. Miller shares the basic principles of growing
food hydroponically (in water) and how to build these systems for home.
Aquaponic systems use fish waste to fertilize plants. They are easy, low
maintenance, use very little space, and can be up to eight times more
productive than growing plants in soil. Discover how aquaponic and hydroponic
gardens are changing the future of farming across the globe and helping to meet
our future food production requirements.
Jeanelle Miller of Colfax has a B.S. in aquatic and
fisheries sciences and is finishing up her M.S. in ecohydrology at the University
of Idaho. She has maintained aquarium fish and ponds her entire life and even
trained octopuses at the Seattle Aquarium. Growing food with her aquatic
ecosystems is just one more step in her goal of creating completely self-sustaining
fish tanks and creating local food security. For more information, contact
