Open House, Book Sale, Raffle For Uniontown Library

Uniontown Library News

On Saturday, August 23 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Uniontown Library will hold a Book Sale and Open House to raise money for its relocation into the former Fire Station. The Sale and Open House is at the Uniontown city hall where both the library and former fire station are located. Besides books, Friends of the Uniontown Library will be on hand selling raffle tickets and residents can view the latest architectural plans for the new library and city hall modifications.

Raffle tickets are $1 each with prizes being an overnight stay and dinner from Clearwater River Casino and Resort, a pottery set created by Terri Walters and a children’s Case IH riding pedal tractor and trailer from Jones Truck and Implement. Besides the open house, raffle tickets can be purchased at AmericanWest Bank, Dahmen Barn, Sage Bakery, Colfax Library and Uniontown City Hall and Library.

Planning for the library relocation has been in the works for some time as the size of the current library has adversely impacted the types of programs and services being offered. Working cooperatively, the town of Uniontown, Whitman County Library and Friends of Uniontown Library developed architectural plans and fundraising efforts. To date, the group has received a Whitman County .09 Economic Development grant of $30,000 and donations and in-kind contributions of approximately $15,000. Total price tag of the library relocation and addition of an accessible restroom is estimated at $55,000.

For more information about this project, contact local project coordinator Leslee Miller at 509-229-3655 or Kristie Kirkpatrick, Whitman County Library Director at 509-397-4366.

Great local book for kids...

Greta Stueckle of Colfax stopped in today to donate her recently published book Peril at Penawawa Creek and the Necessary Lies of a Magpie Thief to the Colfax Library. Writing as Greta Kay, the book is a “whodunit” that touches on bullying and is geared toward 9-11 year-olds.

The book can be obtained for free at the library and in electronic format from Amazon.com between August 23-25. Peril at Penawawa is also available for purchase at Amazon in eBook and paperback formats. Purchasing books and other items through AmazonSmile adds no cost but designates a donation to Friends of Whitman County Library or the non-profit of your choice.
