The books collected will be given to the Fireman's Toy Drive.

Join Colfax Winterfest Fun!

Colfax Winterfest is just around the corner with Santa’s Claus, a Festival of Trees, extended retail hours, regional vendors, a lighted parade and fireworks set for Thursday, December 3 in Colfax.

  Santa will be at The Center from 3-6 p.m. to hear gift requests from local youngsters before joining the lighted Christmas Parade at 6:00 p.m. on Mill, Canyon and Main Street. 

A tradition since the 1950s, Santa visits children each year at the library. 

This year, photos will be available from Leifer Photography. 

The Festival of Trees takes place at The Center and in participating businesses with visitors encouraged to vote for their favorite tree while shopping expanded selections and hours. The Center and many businesses will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

At 6:00 p.m. Santa takes center stage in the lighted parade on Mill Street. He’ll ride on a brightly lit fire engine accompanied by glowing farm implements and other brightly lit entries. A fireworks show from the town’s water tower culminates this fun event.

Guy Pace book signing comes during Winterfest!

Author Guy Pace will be at the Colfax Library selling and signing his book Sudden Mission as part of Colfax Winterfest on Thursday, December 3,  from 3-6 p.m.

Sudden Mission is Pace’s first novel and tells the story of a young teen’s journey through a messed up world. The story blends religious and science fiction themes.

Tree of Lights & Remembrance Ceremony

The Hospice Tree of Lights and Remembrance Ceremony will be on Wednesday, December 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Norma McGregor Community Room at the Colfax Library. Community members are invited to attend this solemn and touching event.

The ceremony pays tribute to loved ones who have passed through music, readings and special ornaments bearing the names of loved ones. The Tree of Lights remains lit within the library throughout the holiday season for community viewing.

If you are interested in paying tribute to a special person in your life who has died, or if you would like more information about this or a similar event at Bishop’s Place in Pullman please contact Friends of Hospice at 509-332-4414. 

Ukulele Players to play at The Center!

As part of the Winterfest Celebration on Thursday, Dec. 3 in Colfax, the Ukulele Players of the Palouse (UPOP) will perform holiday and festive tunes at The Center, 110 S. Main starting immediately after the Parade and Fireworks. Besides music, The Center is hosting Santa

 from 3-6 pm, a Festival of Trees for community voting and vendor booths.

UPOP is the brainchild of Colfax resident Scott Hallett who started the group in conjunction with his Ukulele classes at the Colfax Library. UPOP meets and performs across the Palouse including Moscow, Pullman and Colfax. For more information about this performance or to get involved with UPOP, contact Scott Hallett at 397-4074.

SUBJECT:      UPCOMING LIBRARY CLOSURE

All 14 branches of Whitman County Library are closed Thursday and Friday, November 26 and 27 for Thanksgiving.  Due dates for library materials have been extended in anticipation of the closure and no late fines will be charged for these days. Drop boxes will remain open at all locations for returned items. Access to the library’s catalog, downloadable audio and eBooks, and other online resources including Consumer Reports are available by visiting the library’s website at www.whitco.lib.wa.us. For more information about library closures or upcoming community programs, the Library Events calendar is also accessible from the library website at www.whitco.lib.wa.us.

Purchase your Whitman County 2016 Barn Calendars, on sale now!

The Barns of Whitman County 2016 calendars are now on sale and feature historic black and white barn photos from Whitman County’s past. Calendars are available for $6 at any branch of Whitman County Library, Rosauers in Colfax, Pullman Chamber of Commerce, or by calling the library at 509-397-4366. Proceeds from calendar sales benefit Friends of the Library programs and projects in all 14 branches of Whitman County Library.

The calendars were designed and donated by Steve Van Vleet from WSU’s Whitman County Extension department with photos coming from Whitman County Library’s Rural Heritage Collection and WSU’s Manuscripts, Archives and Special Collections. The gift of blood is the gift of life. You can save the lives of three people by donating blood Friday, November 24, 2:00-5:30 p.m. Appointments are being taken by contacting the library at 509-397-4366 or the Inland Northwest Blood Center at www.inbcsaves.org.                                                     

According to the Inland Northwest Blood Center, here are a few facts about donations:
1. Every 2 seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood product.
2. Although 60% of Americans are eligible to donate blood, only approximately 5% actually do.
3. It is estimated that one in three individuals will need a blood product sometime during their life.

 

Walk-ins will be seen on a first come, first serve basis with photo I.D. required. Donors should drink plenty of fluids and eat a meal at least two hours prior to arrival.
