Join us for Yoga ... to benefit a good cause!

On the first Tuesday of each month, two local Yoga instructors are volunteering their services to benefit important local causes and organizations within the community. This month’s session takes place on Tuesday, February 7 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Colfax Library with “Pie and Bingo” a free program for Whitman County seniors benefiting.

Pie and Bingo is provided the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 2-4 p.m. in the Colfax Branch of Whitman County Library. With as many as 40 seniors attending, proceeds help to purchase pie and other supplies for the popular sessions.

The February 7th yoga class is ideal for beginners or those who are more familiar with Yoga. The first hour consists of a Vinyasa flow with a quick break at 6:30 to move into the Restorative phase. Participants can stay for the entire class or use the break to come and go.

Special thanks to instructors Suzy McNeilly and Crystn Guenthner for providing Yoga for a Cause. For more information about this or other Yoga classes, contact Crystn at 208-305-0057 or Suzy

Let your shopping benefit library programs and services

The best way to support Whitman County Library is to shop locally

Most businesses in our community support the many programs and services Whitman County Library provides so let's do our part by supporting them by shopping locally!

If you must shop online, let us suggest Amazonsmile. Just like shopping at Amazon, the process is easy but a portion of your purchases can be designed to the charity of your choice. And of course, we recommend Friends of Whitman County Library.

For more information about Amazonsmile or to learn more about the Friends of WCL, contact the library at 877-733-3375. We also welcome your attendance at the Friends of Whitman County Library meetings the 1st Tuesday of each month at 11 a.m. at the Colfax Branch.

New Books at YOUR library! Request them today ...

This is the true story of how a cancer nurse, a car dealership worker and an insurance fraud salesman uncovered Wall Street’s great foreclosure fraud that left millions of American’s homeless during the great recession.

This book shows how American finance is in crisis and how Wall Street’s reign over Main Street is widening the gap between rich and poor and threatening the future of the American Dream.

Written by a retired department of homeland security officer this book’s goal is to expose the truth about ISIS and the past administrations submission to Jihad.
To get your copy of these or other items

Exchange food donations for library fines - in February!

February is Food for Fines time at the Whitman County Library. The seventeenth annual Food for Fines drive begins Wednesday, Feb.1, and continues through Tuesday, Feb. 28, at all 14 library branches. This highly successful program allows library patrons to bring nonperishable food and toiletry items into any branch of Whitman County Library during business hours, and waive up to $10 in outstanding library fines. Those who visit the library and do not have fines are also encouraged to make a contribution. All items will be given to the food bank used in the community where they were collected.
Last year, the Whitman County Library collected close to nine hundred dollars’ worth of nonperishable food and toiletry items. Many of the food bank clients receive large heating bills in February and it is wonderful that the library’s food drive allows local agencies to put something extra in their grocery box.

Nonperishable food and toiletry items may be donated at library branches in Albion,
Colfax, Colton, Endicott, Farmington, Garfield, LaCrosse, Malden, Oakesdale, Palouse, Rosalia, St. John, Tekoa and Uniontown.  Those patrons whose accounts have been sent to collection do not qualify for this waiver.  For further details, contact the Colfax Library branch, 397-4366 or toll-free at 1-877-733-3375

1946 by Victor Sebestyen
This is the story about the year that would signal the beginning of the Cold War, the end of the British Empire and the beginning of the rivalry between the United States and the USSR.

Blood Donations Needed-Jan. 19

January is National Blood Donor Month, a time to honor the volunteer blood donors who ensure the health and safety of nearly 4.5 million American patients each year. Donating blood is the ultimate random act of kindness since you never know whose life you could save. Mark your calendar to donate at the Colfax Library location on Thursday, January 19 from 1:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Consider making one of your resolutions to donate three times a year. It is as easy as logging onto INBCsaves.org and making your appointment right from your computer or by calling toll free 800-423-0151. Your commitment will support the much needed blood supply to help save lives across the Inland Northwest.

Need an incentive? By presenting to donate in January, you are entered to win a Fitbit Surge. If exercise or the gym is not for you, you can burn up to 600 calories just by donating blood. Donating blood is so much more than most realize. 30 percent the inventory goes to cancer patients, and about one in seven people entering the hospital end up needing blood. Those in need could be a family member, friend or relative.

So as we begin 2017, find the HERO in you to give blood and save lives. Visit the Whitman County Library online calendar at www.whitco.lib.wa.us for a complete listing of programs and events or call the Colfax Library 509-397-4366.
