Colfax Library PJ Storytime

 

Each year the Colfax Arts Council sponsors the Banner Contest that provides Colfax with creative and colorful street banners. Join the council as they celebrate the 2013 banner artists during a public ceremony and reception on Thursday, June 6 at 7 p.m. in the Colfax Library. Everyone is invited to mingle with the artists, view the banners and enjoy tasty refreshments during this fun community celebration.

During the ceremony, this year’s artists in both the youth and adult categories will be recognized and the winners of both the People’s Choice award and the Artist’s Choice awards will be announced.  The People’s Choice award is based on public voting with a number of locations around town collecting the ballots while a panel of qualified artists from around the region selects the Artist’s Choice award.

Participating banner artists for 2013 are Chais Anderson, Jerry Jones, Tammy Lewis, Loretta Paulson, Ashley Richman, Lynnea VanTrease and Craig Whitcomb.

Our Palouse: People, Places and Possibilities

Photography Exhibition, July 26-28

In conjunction with the Concrete River Festival* in Colfax, WA, photographers are invited to participate in Our Palouse: People, Places and Possibilities, an exhibition July 26-28 in the Colfax Library. The exhibition will combine a splendid and eclectic variety of photographs, highlighting life on the Palouse. From landscapes and people, to wildlife and the abstract, all types of photography will be featured during this 3-day exhibition.

While there is no fee to participate in the exhibition, the library requests all participants contribute one image 8x10 or larger image with white matting that will be used to create a lasting Our Palouse exhibit to be housed and permanently held by the library.

*COLFAX’S CONCRETE RIVER FESTIVAL - JULY 26-28

Colfax has a long and storied past that often revolved around devastating flooding of the Palouse River. In the mid 1960’s, the United States Corps of Engineers solved the problem by building the Mighty Concrete River, a deep channel in the heart town.

 

Today, residents celebrate this engineering feat with a festival that includes:

• A Color Mob 5K Fun Run through the Concrete River
• Live Music all 3 days with beer garden, craft and food vendors
• Friday Night Street Cruise and Roller Derby Exhibition
• Saturday Parade, Kid’s Carnival and Car Show
• Our Palouse: People, Places and Possibilities, 3 day photography exhibition
• Palouse Sampler, guided photography tour (this event is full)
