THANK YOU Colfax!

Thanks to an anonymous donation, exercise classes for area seniors are free at the Colfax Branch of Whitman County Library. Since last fall, a grant from Empire Health Foundation had allowed area residents over the age of 65 to participate in a number of fitness classes at no cost. When the grant ran out at the end of March, one concerned citizen stepped forward with a $1200 donation to insure the free classes continue. She commented, “I’ve noticed these classes are doing a lot of good for people. I am so pleased that I can step forward to see them continue.”

The current line-up of classes available for free to area seniors includes Fit and Fun classes with instructor Nancy Stanard, Restoration, Balance and a variety of Yoga levels from Suzy McNeilly, registered Yoga Trainer and Bootcamp Classes from Purefit trainer Carissa Little. For specific days and times contact Whitman County Library at 397-4366 or visit the library’s Events Calendar at www.whitco.lib.wa.us.

WCL Welcomes Local Artist Henry Stinson's Oil Paintings

The artistic talents of Colfax resident Henry Stinson will be on exhibit in the Colfax Branch Library from March 2 through April 30. The collection of oil paintings captures Stinson’s unique view of the world through his bright and vivid imagery.

Stinson says, “A lot of my paintings stem from images in my childhood geared around an accident I had. I was electrocuted and died behind the couch—literally.” This traumatic event combined with loss of his entire family has dramatically impacted Stinson’s view of life and his search for meaning though art.

Describing his work, Stinson says, “It deals with the wake-up call we all receive at some point in life; and some of us not until death.  I want to give hope through my work. Hope that there is something so much more than all we've been taught to grasp; money, beauty, physical gratifications like food and luxury, status, sins.”

Stinson loves the physical act of painting and often teaches workshops on the subject including a Meet the Artist presentation on April 21 at the library and co-sponsored by The Colfax Arts Council. For more information about Henry Stinson visit www.henrystinson.com or find him on Facebook.

Exhibit hours are Mondays-Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursdays-Fridays 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Saturday-Sundays, 1-5 p.m. For more information call  509-397-4366.
