Whitman County Library
announces new technology devices and services available to local residents
thanks to grant funding from the Gates Foundation through the Washington State
Library. All 14 county Library Branches are now equipped with a computer tablet
and assorted technology to be used within the library as well as library staff
who are trained to assist patrons in understanding the new technologies.
Free Microsoft IT Academy
classes also continue for at least two years, thanks to recently approved funding
from the Washington State Legislature. This valuable set of online
classes improves personal and professional skills, ranging from beginning Word
to advanced Microsoft Dynamics and Server training. Whitman County
Library is an official Microsoft Office Software Certiport testing center,
which allows residents to become certified specialists in Word, Excel and three
other Office programs at low or no cost. Anyone participating in classes or
tests before September 15 will receive mugs or other prizes thanks to project
grant funding.
With over 20,000 free eBooks
and audiobooks available from the Anytime Library link at Whitman County
Library’s website, the library receives many questions about accessing the
collection or which computer, phone or device to use. Library staff can assist
with these questions or demonstrate usage of a variety of grant funded devices.
To better serve smart phone
users, a new app is available called Library Now. Library users can click
on the app button on their Library Facebook page to download this free gateway
to all services, including the catalog, authoritative information databases,
the Rural Heritage Project and the Anytime Library.
